Viktoria started with two changes in the starting XI compared to the 3-1 draw at VfL Osnabrück: André Becker and Michael Schultz played in place of Jamil Siebert and Hamza Saghiri.

Viktoria harmless, Rizzuto scores for Saarbrücken

Saarbrücken’s Adriano Grimaldi scored the first big chance of the game, who headed in from a corner in the 6th minute and just missed the goal. Otherwise, both teams met at eye level, but initially did not come to any conclusions from the game. Consequently, the hosts also got their first opportunity from a corner when Simon Stehle’s header failed to hit FCS keeper Daniel Batz, who reacted strongly (21′). Almost immediately, Saarbrücken took the lead. Calogero Rizzuto was blocked on his first shot from close range, but scored the second attempt in the goal (22nd).

After that, Saabrücken seemed a bit more determined than the Viktoria. Richard Neudecker tested Viktoria goalkeeper Benjamin Voll with a shot from distance in the 31st minute. Up until the break, the Cologne team didn’t rebel, they still couldn’t find a way through the defense of the Saarlanders.

Uaferro increased, Meißner missed

Janßen made two changes in the second half and brought in Luca Marseiler and Saghiri for Stehle and Becker. Viktoria came out of the dressing room with commitment, but was initially unable to create any more chances. Instead, the visitors made it 2-0: Boné Uaferro headed a free-kick into the Cologne goal (54′). The Saabrück fans celebrated the second goal with plenty of pyrotechnics, which led to a short break in the game.

Substitute Luca Kerber almost made the decision 3-0, but shot over the goal from five meters (62nd). On the other hand, Robin Meißner almost shortened the lead for Viktoria, but his long-range shot was thwarted by Batz (66′). After that, little happened for a long time until Kasim Rabihic scored the last chance of the game for the guests in the 85th minute.
