Bayern-Präsident: Hainer fordert für Heim-EM: “Alle Kräfte bündeln”
Bayern Munich’s club president Herbert Hainer (68) has warned of a “now more than ever mentality” in view of the World Cup preliminary round of the German national soccer team.
“The European Championships are coming up in less than two years. German football has to pool all its strengths. You shouldn’t fall into negativism now. What is needed is a now-first-right mentality and for things to be tackled,” said Hainer in an interview with the Munich “Abendzeitung” (Christmas edition).
You have to see the home EM 2024 as a great opportunity. “The World Cup final in particular showed once again how football can inspire people. Back then, the fans in Germany made the 2006 World Cup an unforgettable tournament – now it’s about creating that kind of atmosphere again,” said Hainer , who welcomed sticking to national coach Hansi Flick.
DFB set up crisis commissions
The DFB-Elf had already been eliminated in the preliminary round at the World Cup in Qatar. In the course of dealing with the debacle, national team director Oliver Bierhoff had agreed with the association to terminate the contract. The DFB is now trying to positively influence the development of the national team again with two crisis committees.
Hainer was confident about the hot phase of the season with FC Bayern. “We’re leading the championship by four points, have been convincing in the Champions League so far and are also aiming for the cup final. We’ve missed that for two years now – Berlin is always worth a trip,” said Hainer.
