Berichte französischer Medien: OGC Nizza trennt sich von Trainer Favre
According to media reports, the French first division soccer team OGC Nice has parted ways with long-time Bundesliga coach Lucien Favre. There was no official confirmation from the Ligue 1 club.
France’s sports daily “L’Equipe” and the AFP news agency reported on Monday (01/09/2023) about the separation. The AFP referred to a source familiar with the matter. According to AFP, the 65-year-old is to be replaced by his previous assistant, Didier Digard. The former reserve team coach will initially act as an interim coach.
Favre dismissed after the disaster start at Nice
Nice reacted to the weak start after the World Cup break with just one point from two games and the embarrassing loss of the cup at third division club CO Le Puy. Didier Digard,
Favre only took up coaching in Nice for the second time in the summer of 2022, after shortly before he had turned down his ex-club Borussia Mönchengladbach. Favre had led Nice to third place in the 2016/17 season, after eighth place a year later, both sides parted ways. However, the engagement was not really successful. The ambitious Côte d’Azur club, owned by British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe and his company Ineos, currently sits eleventh in Ligue 1.
The 65-year-old Swiss Favre had previously coached the clubs Hertha BSC, Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
