Bundesliga: Bayer-Training: Weltmeister Palacios mit Spalier begrüßt
With world champion Exequiel Palacios, the footballers from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen have started preparing for the next part of the season.
The 24-year-old Argentinian, who was part of the South American squad for last December’s World Cup triumph in Qatar, received congratulations from coach Xabi Alonso on the training ground in Leverkusen and was sent through a trellis formed by the midfielder’s team-mates.
The first training session of the new year was accompanied by a number of good resolutions from the Werkself. “We know that the current season has not gone as well as we had hoped. We now want to collect the points that we missed before,” said team captain Lukas Hradecky in a video message published before the start of training and addressed to the fans explained. After the previous 15 match days, the Werksclub is in 12th place in the table with 18 points
Before that, according to Alonso’s instructions, the players should keep fit with detailed training plans over the Christmas period until after the New Year. After groin problems, offensive player Patrick Schick is in individual rehabilitation training in the new year. The club also announced that defender Madi Monamay from the U19 team should now train regularly with the professional team.
Leverkusen will play their first league game after the break on January 22 (5:30 p.m.) at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Before that, friendlies against FC Venice on Saturday (3:00 p.m.) and FC Copenhagen on January 15 (1:00 p.m.) are planned.
