Bundesliga: VfB hofft auf Sosa-Rückkehr – Transfer nicht ausgeschlossen
Sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth from VfB Stuttgart is hoping for full-back Borna Sosa to return soon, but at the same time does not rule out a change for the 24-year-old this winter.
“We are optimistic that he will join us in the next week,” Wohlgemuth told the German Press Agency about Sosa. The Croatian has not trained with Stuttgart’s Bundesliga soccer team since participating in the World Cup and is currently completing an individual program in Munich due to adductor problems. VfB is currently holding its training camp in Marbella, Spain.
One is confident that Sosa “can be a starting eleven candidate again in the foreseeable future,” explained Wohlgemuth. “It remains to be seen how far he will be at the start of the second half of the season,” said the 43-year-old. The national player “still has a long way to go” before VfB’s first league game of the new year against 1. FSV Mainz 05 on January 21.
Alongside central defender Konstantinos Mavropanos, Sosa is one of the Stuttgart players who have been the subject of the most rumors of a transfer recently and whose sale would probably be the best way for the financially troubled VfB to improve their treasury. “One thing is certain, we’ve all learned that anyone who wants to categorically rule out something in football is already on the wrong track,” said Wohlgemuth about possible departures this winter.
“In the end, all that counts is that we make VfB the winner with all our decisions. In this respect, we don’t rule out a transfer. But to say it straight away: There is no concrete offer for any of the players mentioned,” added Wohlgemuth. Sosa’s contract runs until June 30, 2025.
