FC Köln hits Bremen so hard because coach Ole Werner once again criticized the lack of competition within the squad on the last day of the training camp.
“You can see that when three or four important guys aren’t on the pitch, things get difficult and a bit thin for us,” said Werner. “Our squad isn’t that big. And in this squad we have a lot of guys who haven’t played that incredibly often in the Bundesliga, or in some cases not at all. So we can’t say that we have 21 outfield players who everyone is fighting for a place in the starting XI. That’s definitely not the case with us.”
