Kein Ersatz für Neuer: Immel über Keeper Sommer: “Bin kein Fan von ihm”
Former national soccer goalkeeper Eike Immel does not think much of Yann Sommer as a possible replacement for Manuel Neuer at Bayern Munich.
“I’m not a fan of his,” said the 1980 European champion to the news portal “t-online” about the Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper: “I don’t want to say anything negative, but: Neuer doesn’t have to throw himself down with every ball or make a huge save, which Sommer turns into a world-class save.” While one catches the ball easily, “the other is praised to the heavens”.
Sommer was recently counted in the media as one of the candidates that Bayern are said to have considered as a transfer candidate after Neuer’s serious leg injury. The Swiss player’s contract in Gladbach expires at the end of the season.
“As far as my contractual situation and my future are concerned, there were open talks with the club before the World Cup. We will resume these as agreed in the coming days,” Sommer said on the club’s website on Tuesday after returning to training quoted.
According to Immel (62), the 1.83 meter tall summer is simply too small for larger tasks. When he was goalkeeping coach at Fenerbahçe Istanbul, a goalkeeper like Sommer would not have fallen into his trap: “When I was looking for new goalkeepers, I wasn’t even interested in the candidates under 1.87 meters.”
