Liverpool FC’s decline in the Premier League is taking on threatening proportions. Jürgen Klopp is at a loss after the recent rejection in Brighton.

Jurgen Klopp had made up his mind – he simply apologized to the fans. With his hands raised and his head bowed, the coach faced the traveling supporters and took the blame after yet another disappointing performance from Liverpool FC. “It’s my responsibility,” said Klopp, “I know that.”

After the 0: 3 (0: 0) at Brighton & Hove Albion, the Reds are still without a win after the third game of the year – and Klopp did not spare admissions. The 55-year-old emphasized that he “can’t remember a worse game”: “It was an organized team playing against an unorganized team”. And not for the first time this season.

Dropped to ninth place

For Klopp and Liverpool it was the fifth away defeat of the current season. In the Premier League, the 19-time champion is slipping further and further into mid-table. Both Brighton and Brentford passed Liverpool in ninth place on Saturday.

Klopp looked at a loss when looking for reasons for the misery. “How to explain that?” he quarreled. After all, “the same players” have already shown “outstanding” performances.

Liverpool player – unrecognizable

He’s not wrong. Last season, Klopp’s team won both cup competitions, finished second in the league just one point behind and only lost to Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League. But these very places for the premier class are getting further and further away.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, the biggest rival is now also establishing itself there. After a completely messed up start under new team manager Erik ten Haag, Manchester United is currently in impressive form. With a 2-1 (0-0) win in the city derby against Manchester City, United moved up to a point on their local rivals and defending champions.

“Can’t take anything”

After a disastrous 3:6 in the first leg against City, the Red Devils lost only one of 19 competitive games. A series that Liverpool can only dream of. After all: Improving Brighton’s performance “won’t be too difficult,” said Klopp: “We can take absolutely nothing from this game, apart from things that don’t work.”

Above all, the German football coach criticized his midfield: “We’re actually strong there with Fabinho, Henderson and Thiago. But what happens? We keep losing the ball,” said Klopp in the press conference after the game.

Thick transfers still in the current window?

Fear is now rampant on Merseyside. The Champions League places seem almost out of reach for this season, and in the current round it is up against Real Madrid. “How is the team supposed to survive?” ask the gazettes.

The club management has therefore decided to react as quickly as possible, it is reported. According to reports, Liverpool will try to strike in the current transfer window. Dortmund’s Jew Bellingham is apparently at the top of the wish list. But midfielders like Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice should also be on the radar.

“Lack of Confidence”

Meanwhile, midfielder Jordan Henderson believes he has recognized the main reason: “Almost all of us are struggling with a lack of self-confidence. That’s the reason for the worst phase in seven years,” said the team captain after the Brighton game.
