VfB Stuttgart clinched their first win under coach Bruno Labbadia at the second attempt.

At their first appearance in the new calendar year, the Bundesliga club, threatened with relegation, won 3-0 (0-0) against FC Sion in the training camp in Marbella. The goals from Serhou Guirassy (46th minute), Nikolas Nartey (55th) and Thomas Kastanaras (90th + 1) made the difference against the Swiss first division team on Sunday.

Already in the first half the Swabians had more of the game. However, they failed to create good chances. Sion’s best opportunity was missed by Cleilton Itaitinga. The Brazilian failed after twelve minutes to Florian Müller in the VfB goal.

Even without Dan-Axel Zagadou, who has an ankle injury, and Chris Führich, who is still in rehabilitation training, the Labbadia team was better in the second half. Guirassy and Nartey rewarded VfB for their effort shortly after the break and Kastanaras completed a counterattack in the closing stages.

The Stuttgart team lost the first friendly under Labbadia, which followed interim coach Michael Wimmer in December, 3-0 against FC Luzern. Another test is scheduled for Thursday at the training camp. Opponent is the Czech capital club Sparta Prague.
