Trainingslager in Dubai: Mario Götze blüht bei Eintracht Frankfurt auf
Even though the World Cup was disappointing for him, Eintracht star Mario Götze is in a good mood at the training camp in Dubai – and is already in great shape again. It’s not just the players who notice this.

Anyone watching Mario Götze from Dubai in the Eintracht Frankfurt training camp these days will of course see an exceptional kicker at work, but also a happy, highly motivated and, above all, extremely often smiling footballer. Mario Götze and Eintracht Frankfurt still fit together exceptionally well after more than half a year. The 2014 World Champion has arrived in Hesse.
The bad performance and the little time at the Winter World Cup in Qatar can make little difference. Of course, the weeks on the peninsula in the Persian Gulf could not be shaken off overnight, but after a long vacation with the family and a bit of football-free time, Götze is fully focused on Eintracht again. “Of course I would have liked to play more, but the issue is over. Now I’m back with Eintracht and it’s going on,” announced Götze on Wednesday.
“I feel super good”
In the days off after the unsatisfactory World Cup, the now 30-year-old also had time to recap his first six months in Frankfurt. When asked if he did everything right with his move from Eindhoven back to the Bundesliga to Eintracht in the summer, the right-footer answered briefly and clearly: “It seems so. I feel really good.”
In Hesse, the former Dortmund and Bayern star wanted to try the domestic league again after two years in the Netherlands, far away from the hustle and bustle in Germany and all the attention he always received. It was a bold step back in the summer. If it hadn’t worked for Eintracht, he probably wouldn’t have had another chance in his career in the Bundesliga.
Extra praise from sports director Krösche
But it fit. From day one. Götze got involved with Frankfurt, says how comfortable he feels in the city and, with his footballing class, immediately played his way into a strong Eintracht team without any difficulties adapting. “I’m very happy over the last six months. It worked very well on the pitch. It just feels good,” explained Götze.
If you believe the words of sports director Markus Krösche, even more than that. “Mario took us to another level,” he judged in the days in Dubai. You can’t get any more praise than that. “I’m trying to be the piece of the puzzle and I just want to use my experience to help the team to be successful and just continue where Eintracht left off last season,” Götze remains modest.
Götze makes the players around him better
On offense he gets along almost blindly with Jesper Lindström and Randal Kolo Muani and is often the man for the penultimate pass. The one who makes everyone around him better – with his ideas, his creativity and his unlearnable sense of space. “He gave us a different note and has outstanding skills,” said sporting director Krösche. Götze and Eintracht, that just fits. And it wasn’t foreseeable. In the meantime, however, it can be stated quite simply: the 2014 world champion really did everything right in the summer.
