After successful preparation, FC Erzgebirge Aue had big plans. Coach Dotchev made six changes to the starting XI compared to the last competitive game in November. But then the violets made a serious mistake in the ninth minute. After a wide ball, Korbinian Burger and keeper Martin Männel disagreed as to who would intervene. Justin Butler took the chance and netted into the empty goal from close range. Aue shook himself, but initially couldn’t cope with Ingolstadt’s early pressing. However, the game became more open from the 25th minute and Omar Sijaric had a great chance to equalize in the 32nd minute, but was denied by keeper Marius Funk from 16 meters out.

Towards the end of the first half, the game picked up speed again, initially the FCI was close to 2-0. Pascal Testroet put the ball on Maximilian Dittgen, who put the ball past Männel and the goal from eight yards out. Aue seemed a bit unsorted and then struck himself in injury time. Marvin Stefaniak first tested the radio from 18 meters, Antonio Jonjic switched the fastest and scored from five meters into the right corner to make it 1-1. There was a great deal of excitement shortly before the half-time whistle when Calivn Brackelmann elbowed Sijaric to the ground, but the whistle and the possible red card never came.

Brave violets are rewarded

The goal gave Aue courage, the violets dominated after the change and fought for more game shares. And finally rewarded himself. Paul-Philipp Besong ran into the penalty area in the 67th minute and was put down by Hans Nunoo Sarpei. Dimitrij Nazarov converted the penalty kick safely into the right corner. Ingolstadt now put more pressure on, but Aue was good for long stretches and fought for every ball. And when one got through, as in Marcel Costly’s cracker, Martin Männel cleared it with a great reflex (74′). In the final phase, the Saxons cleverly kept the ball away from their own penalty area and threw their arms in the air after five minutes of added play.
